Welcome back to the More Than Sexy Podcast, I'm your host Jasmine and I'm excited for what's in store. I have some deeper topics that I'll be sharing with you guys over the next year, so make sure you're subscribed because we're going to help you overcome body image and low self-esteem.

In this episode, I want to share how low self-esteem hinders your relationship with God. First, let's define self-esteem, it's the way you see yourself and the way you value yourself as a person. For some people, it's too high and they're conceited, for others it's low and they struggle with self-respect and confidence.

Now, I've been through this before so I can tell you how this hinders your relationship with the Lord.

1. It makes you more of a hypocrite. Let me explain.

A person with low self-esteem most likely isn't true to themselves. They feel like they aren't important or that they aren't special. Because of this, they try to fit in with something that will make them important, whether making a lot of money, being seen with the finest man or woman, or achieving flawless body goals. They will sometimes live in a projected state because they don't want others to think little of them even though they think low of themselves. Sometimes they will lie or pretend like everything is better than it seems.

We know that God doesn't like hypocrites. Continuing in this facade actually makes you worse as a person. 2 Timothy 3:13 states that evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse deceiving people and being deceived. An impostor is someone who lies about who they are. It's someone who fakes it to make it. The world loves this quote but it's not biblical. God wants us to be honest with ourselves and honest with Him. He says in Romans 12:3, have an honest evaluation of yourself. Be honest about your own self-importance and don't try to act like you're better than you really are.

There is no truth in projection or perception, there is only truth in your reality, and God is judging the real you, so deal with the real person when no one else is around.

2. It's hard to have integrity and high moral character when you're suffering from low self-esteem.

This goes with what we just discussed. Hypocrites lack integrity. Integrity means you are an honest person in private and in public. It means you keep to a standard no matter who is watching. People like to switch it up when they get around certain people, that is what impostors do when they have no real stability in who they are. Proverbs 10:9 says, "Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out."

You will find yourself overexaggerating, telling white lies, or covering things up because you care about how you're seen rather than obeying the word of God. You want to please people so badly that you compromise on your obedience to the Lord. That was me. I did what everybody else wanted except what God said. Why? Low self-worth. Needing to feel like I was accepted if I did that for them, rather than realizing God already accepts me and I'm already loved enough by Him.

3. It's hard to pray and ask God for things when you’re suffering from low self-esteem 🙏🏽 😔

Why? Because you're double-minded and have many doubts -- which He says He won't give you what you ask if you're not sure by faith that you even want it. (James 1:6) (Matthew 21:21) As a result, your life continues to be in multiple directions, your calling is buried, & your life in Christ isn't fruitful.

There was this time that God revealed this very thing to me years ago when I was in Nashville. I was newly divorced and God sent multiple people to prophesy to me when I was in Nashville. This was in 2017 and now I'm seeing some of those things come into fruition in 2023. He told me that I needed to believe His word was for me. And I laughed when the lady said it cause I knew a week or two prior I was frustrated in my Bible studies cause I didn't know if God's promises really applied to me.

When you struggle with low self-esteem, it's hard to believe the good things that people say or do for you. Cause you think you're undeserving, and the truth is, when it comes to God's promises, we are undeserving. But Jesus died and rose again so that we could experience freedom from this enslavement and be bold about our faith and bold with who we are called to be.

So what do you need to do? Repent for making trauma your god and allowing it to dictate how you live your life. Renew your mind with God's word so that you can have a new way of thinking and consider working with a self-esteem coach or therapist.
