You are not alone in your struggles with self-esteem. One thing you should know is that God is for you and not against you. Below are eight bible verses about self-esteem to help renew your mind.
1. Genesis 1:31 AMP
"God saw everything He had made, and behold, it was very good and He validated it completely. And there was evening and there was morning, a sixth day."
If you need validation then this scripture is for you. You were already validated before God even formed you in your mother's womb. When someone is validated, they are approved, accepted, and recognized as worthy. You are accepted and recognized as worthy by God.
2. Luke 12:6-7 AMP
"Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? Yet not one of them has [ever] been forgotten in the presence of God. Indeed the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be afraid; you are far more valuable than many sparrows."
Why did Jesus tell us not to be afraid in this verse? Sometimes our struggle with self-esteem comes from fear of what people have done or fear of what they will do to hurt us. Jesus is saying do not fear them, you are not forgotten. Fear God instead, because He watches over you very carefully.
3. Galatians 1:10 AMP
"Am I now trying to win the favor and approval of men, or of God? Or am I seeking to please someone? If I were still trying to be popular with men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ."
Does your struggle with low self-esteem cause you to be a "people-pleaser"? I know this all too well. Because I didn’t value myself, I gave in to the wants and needs of others. This affected my relationship with God and caused me to compromise the truth.
We can't be faithful servants of God while also being slaves to what everyone else wants.
4. Proverbs 29:25 MSG
"The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that."
Many times low self-esteem originates from the fear of what people think. Maybe someone made mean comments about you, you were bullied, or your parents were too critical, this can cause you to fear opinions.
But fearing God will protect you from that. When you respect God as Holy and obey Him, you will learn that He is ultimately the only one you should answer to. This holy fear of God will keep you from placing people on pedestals they weren't meant for.
5. Jeremiah 29:11 ERV
"I say this because I know the plans that I have for you.” This message is from the Lord. “I have good plans for you. I don’t plan to hurt you. I plan to give you hope and a good future."
If your low self-esteem is associated with not knowing what your life plans are then this is for you. God doesn't have plans of disaster for you, but to give you a good future according to His will for your life.
6. Joshua 1:9 ERV
"Remember, I commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid, because the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Low self-esteem can cause you to live in a constant state of fear and worry. God tells you to be strong and brave because He is with you. And there's good news, you don't have to be strong or confident all by yourself, God is calling you to trust Him and rely on His strength. I did a video on this recently, I hope it encourages you more.
7. 1 John 3:1 ERV
"The Father has loved us so much! This shows how much he loved us: We are called children of God. And we really are his children. But the people in the world don’t understand that we are God’s children, because they have not known him."
If you never felt like you belonged, you do! You are a child of God, and you may feel rejected because people who don't know God don't know that you belong to Him. It's okay to feel like an outsider, that just means you're an insider in God's Kingdom.
8. Romans 12:3 ERV
"Don’t think that you are better than you really are. You must see yourself just as you are. Decide what you are by the faith God has given each of us."
This scripture addresses issues with pride. When you're struggling with self-esteem, it's easy to pretend like you're better than you seem. God wants us to be real and humble about the struggles we face. Don't get into a habit of pretending like you're better than people, instead, be humble and seek God for healing.
